Thrust Areas

  • To formulate and impart in-service trainings to different categories of officers and field functionaries from line departments of Government organization and Non- Government organizations.

  • To conduct short and long duration vocational trainings for front-line farmers, farm women, farm youth and school /college dropouts of the State.

  • To assess the latest agricultural technology through front-line demonstrations for their wider adoption.

  • To provide farm information services through various extension activities including literature for quick dissemination of technology.

Important Achievements:

  1. Training Programmes

The Directorate of Extension Education has also been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting training programmes. These trainings are for the in-service employees of central and state Government, line departments, trainings for farmers, farm women, rural youth & field functionaries.

The trainings and workshops organized for in-service candidates during the year 2023-24 are given as follows:

  • WorkshopforKVKsof SKRAU Senior Scientist & SMS

WorkshopforKVKsofSenior Scientist & SMS of SKRAU, Bikaner was organized at DEE, SKRAU, Bikaner on 10.10.2023. The objectives of the Workshop was critically review new technology transfer through CFLD and OFT by KVKs.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Arun Kumar was the Chief Guest, Dr. Subhash Chandra, Director Extension, SKRAU, Bikaner welcomed the delegates. All Senior Scientist & Head and Subject Matter Specialists of SKRAU, Bikaner, Heads of ICAR Institutions and Directors/Deans/Heads of the Department of SKRAU, Bikaner have participated in the workshop.

   

Dr. Arun Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU, Bikaner also shared his experiences and interacted with the scientists of ICAR and KVKs for future collaborations.

  • Workshop on One District One Product:

A Workshop for KVKs of Senior Scientist of SKRAU, Bikaner was organized by the Directorate of Extension Education on 16th December, 2022. The Workshop was chaired by Hon’ble VC, SKRAU, Bikaner Dr. Arun Kumar.

  • International Soil Health Day

International Soil Health Day was organized at Shri Vivekanand Agriculture Musuem, SKRAU, Bikaner on 05th December, 2022 . The function was chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU, Bikaner Dr. Arun Kumar in which 45 Soil Health Cards distributed to the farmers.

  • Kisan Diwas & MOU between SKRAU, Bikaner & Tara Bloom :

Kisan Diwas was organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikaner on 23rd Dec., 2022 at Shri Vivekanand Agriculture Musuem, SKRAU, Bikaner. The function was chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU, Bikaner Dr. Arun Kumar.

  • Workshop for Innovative farmers :

Two workshops were organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikaner at Shri Vivekanand Agriculture Musuem, SKRAU, Bikaner. The function was chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU, Bikaner Dr. Arun Kumar. HVC advised to SKRAU Deans & Directors/Heads of Departments to consider innovative technologies in Research Programmes of SKRAU for evaluate innovative technologies.

  • Kisan Mela :

Three Days University Level Kisan Mela was organized on “Poskak Anaj-Samridh Kisan” by the Directorate of Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikanerat University Stadium from 27 to 29 March, 2023. In which 7500 farmers/Farm Women/Rural Youth/Extension Personnel were participated and 105 agriculture exhibition stalls were exhibited.

  • Kisan Chaupal and Vichar Gosthi:

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKRAU, Bikaner take new innovative idea to organize a Kisan Chaupal on each Wednesday by each KVKs of SKRAU per month as per thrust need of farmers in the operational area.

  • Extension Advisory Committee Meeting:

Two Extension Advisory Committee Meetings were organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikaner on 15th may, 2023, 26h Oct., 2023 & 03rd Oct., 2024 at DHRD, SKRAU, Bikaner. In which Prof. A.K. Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Maharani Laxmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, Dr. U.S. Gautam, DDG (Ag. Extn.) Dr. N.P. Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Banda Agriculture University, Banda were Chief Guests respectively, whereas Dr. Arun Kumar presided over the EAC meetings. The Director Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikaner and Senior Scientists & Head of KVKs were presented Progress Reports.

  • Monthly e-News Paper ‘Chokhi Kheti’

The monthly newspaper “Chokhi Kheti” is being e-published regularly since February 2002 covering all research based articles useful for the farming community of the state. Now this is also available on line on the University website www.raubikaner.org. The subscription rate of the paper is only Rs. 50/ per annum.

  • Agricultural Technology Information Center (ATIC)

This project has been sanctioned in 1999 under the National Agricultural Technology Project. ATIC is functioning on ‘single window delivery system’ for meeting the requirements of the farmers in terms of new technology, seeds/planting material of improved varieties, vaccines,

diagnostic facility, literature, which was quite innovative and would help in bringing the institutions/SAUs closer to the farmers.

  1. OnFarmTesting(OFT)

To identify suitable solutions of the location specific problems being faced by the farmers in the adopted villages,on farm testing programme was taken up by KVKs on problems like low yield, plant protection,nutrient management and varietal assessment in crops like clusterbean,mothbean,greengram,groundnut,wheat,mustard,gram and vegetables like Carrot and onion.OFTs were also taken on fruit plant like kinnow, Pomegranate and Date-palm. In animals husbandry section buffalo and calf were taken into consideration.This year total 25On Farm Testing were taken by SKRAU,KVKs with the involvement of 75 farmers mainly for assessment of technologies.

  1. Front line Demonstrations

Cluster Front line Demonstrations

The ICAR has sponsored a special programme of Front-line Demonstrations to demonstrate the genetic production potential of improved crop varieties and to disseminate latest proven technologies of oilseeds under NAMOOP scheme and pulses production among the farmers with the view to reduce the time lag between technology generated and its adoption under NFSM scheme. This will also enable field functionaries to elucidate the production constraints and limitations in the adoption of technology for onward transmission to scientists to reorient their research accordingly. In these demonstrations all the newly unfolded technologies are carried out under the direct supervision of scientists and technicians of KVKs by supplying the critical inputs.

During the reporting year, Demonstrations were conducted on 432 hectares of land under front linedemonstrationsincludingoilseeds,(152ha),pulses(280ha)andothercrops(100ha).Total 1725 demonstrationswerelaidoutunderFLD.

  1. Training Programmes

One of the mandates of Krishi Vigyan Kendras is to organize training programmes for practicing farmers, farm-women, rural youth and extension functionaries throughout the year. These trainings are conducted on the institution as well as in the villages, as per convenience of the target group and the nature of the training programme. The duration of programme may vary from one day to six months depending upon the complexity of the subject matter and need of the target group. During the year 2023-24 total 373 training progammes were organized by KVKs with the participation of 9466 participants. Out of these trainings, three trainings were organized for field functionaries 05, for rural youth 04 for farmers and farm women.

  1. Knowledge Resource Management

This new mandate has been added to KVK activities and KVKs are working as Knowledge resource center specially in the field of agriculture and allied subjects for all the line departments as well

as farmers of the district. Following activities had been under taken by SKRAU, KVKs during the year 2023-24 .

  • Publications :

During the year, 36 articles, 25 extension literature (leaf let, folder, pump let etc.), 23 research papers and 09 training manuals & Books Chapter were published by the KVK scientists.

  • Telephone help line

KVK scientists are providing immediate solutions to the farmers on telephone for their problems related to agriculture and allied disciplines. During the year total ……….. farmers contacted the scientists for solution of problems.

  • Trainingsconductedforlinedepartments.

LinedepartmentssuchasDepartmentofAgriculture,DepartmentofHorticulture,Department

of Animal Production, Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Watershed Development etc. utilizing expertise of KVK scientists for training of their field staff, training of farmers

and other activities. This year three trainings were conducted for field functionaries and ………. sponsored trainings for farmers and farm women with the participation of 27 and 678 participants respectively.

  1. Supportive Extension Activities

In order to pass on fruits of technology to the farming society as early as possible, various supportive educational activities such as field days, farmers fair, exhibitions, press release, farmer scientist-interaction, diagnostic services, educational tours, night camps, film shows etc. were organized by KVKs throughout the year. The details of these activities are given in Table given below;

Office, ATIC and museum buildings are available with all facilities including conference hall. For staying of Directorate is having farmers hostel (Kissan Ghar) with the capacity to accommodate 150 farmers at a time.
