Biotechnology Centre
The Plant Biotechnology Centre at Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, was established in 1995 under a research and development project funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi. Subsequently, the infrastructure and equipment of the center were further strengthened under the World Bank-funded Agricultural Development Project (ADP), making it a center of excellence for the university. For conducting academic activities, the Biotechnology Department of the Faculty of Agriculture has been integrated into this center. Recognizing the center’s contributions to various activities like human resource development, research, and extension, the Government of Rajasthan awarded it the “Best Center of Excellence” award in 2008. The university offers a self-financed postgraduate program in biotechnology at this center, and students from other institutions across the country also receive internship training here. The center has successfully executed 19 research projects (12 by faculty members and 7 by students). Additionally, it conducts training and awareness programs for students and farmers.
