Directorate of Extension Education

The Directorate of Extension Education was set up on 19th January, 2000 as a nodal agency of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner for promoting agricultural development in the State through quick transfer of technology by providing training, advisory and farm information to professional & extension personnel of line departments and farmers. It also involves in assessment, refinement & adoption of technology through on farm testing and front-line demonstrations. Being a crucial institution of the University, the Directorate provides guidelines, monitor and evaluate the extension programme of KVKs functioning under SKRAU. The Directorate also extends its support to the State departments through farm information by publishing literature on different disciplines of agriculture and allied subjects.

Mandate:-

To formulate and impart in-service trainings to different categories of officers and field functionaries from line departments of Government and Non- Government organizations.

To conduct short and long duration vocational trainings for front-line farmers, farm women, farm youth and school /college dropouts of the State.

To assess and refine the latest agricultural technology through front-line demonstrations for their wider adoption.

To provide farm information services through various extension activities including literature for quick dissemination of technology

Infrastructure:-

The Directorate of Extension Education is located at Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Beechwal-Bikaner campus. The main building of Directorate consists of seven staff rooms, and one conference hall/ meeting hall. It is equipped with the facilities like computer, audio visual aids, exhibition unit etc. This Directorate also have facility of Farmers Hostel, having 12 double seated AC rooms, two VIP rooms, four dormitories' and one dining hall.The Directorate also holds on instructional farm occupied by different KVK units besides their administrative-cum-training buildings, farmer's hostels, crop museums, demonstration units etc.

Operational Area and organization:-

The operational area of Directorate of Extension Education is in six district of Rajasthan namely Bikaner, Sri ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Jaisalmer.

1. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) are district level innovative institutions of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) entrusted agricultural technology application in rural areas.Following seven KVKs are working under the direct jurisdiction of SKRAU,Bikaner; Agro-Climatic Zone-Wise Location of KVKs under SKRAU, Bikaner

2. Agricultural Technology Information Center (ATIC)

This project has been sanctioned in 1999 under the National Agricultural Technology Project. ATIC is functioning on 'single window delivery system' for meeting the requirements of the farmers in terms of new technology, seeds/planting material of improved varieties, vaccines, diagnostic facility, literature, which was quite innovative and would help in bringing the institutions/SAUs closer to the farmers.

Salient Activities

Human Resource development

The essence of Human Resource Development is education, which plays a significant and remedial role in balancing the socio-economic fabric of the Country.HRD is an important optional activity of the extension education system of the university. Directorate of Extension Education is organizing various national, state level and in service personnel trainings, model training courses, faculty development courses winter and summer schools, etc. Dee is also organizing vocational trainings for economic empowerment and livelihood security of farm families. Short duration trainings for farmers, farm women and rural youth on new production technologies are organized regularly at DEEs and KVKs.

Model training course:-

Directorate of Extension Education organising national level training programmes, workshops and seminars for promoting professional competency of the officials and extension personnel's working in different line departments, major training areas are on sustainable agriculture, cropping system approach, seed production technology, post harvest technology , IPM,INM, arid horticulture, micro-irrigation systems etc.

State Level Training Courses:-

The Directorate organizes short duration training courses for subject matter specialists of line departments on subject like IPM, INM, organic farming, vermin-composting, aromatic and medicinal plants, etc. In these courses, the officials are exposed to recent advances in technologies.

One Year Vocation course on Nursery Management:-

An one year training course was started by the Directorate of Extension Education with the financial assistance under National Horticulture Mission through Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Rajasthan. Each year, 25 youth having senior secondary educational qualification participating in the training programme. The selected youths were from the various districts of Rajasthan

Winter/ Summer Schools:-

In view to update the knowledge about recent advances in science and technology of scientists of SAUs, ICAR sponsored winter/ summer schools are being organized at DEE. Course on" Participatory Extension Research and Management " was organized in the Directorate of Extension Education, SKRAU, Bikaner from1-21, Dec.2012

Rajasthan Mission on Skill and Livelihoods (RMoL):-

The Rajasthan mission on Skill and Livelihoods ( RMoL) was established in the Year 2004 to promote livelihoods with the objective of creation of two lakh livelihoods annually. Under the mission KVKs are organizing need base, short duration skill oriented training progammes for rural as well as urban youth to sustain livelihood. The focus of these training programmes is to cover around 80% youth who dropped their school education due to various reasons but have aptitude for acquiring skill relevant to strengthen their livelihood. Training programmes organized under the mission are repair and maintenance of tractor, nursery raising, cutting & tailoring, embroidery and needle works, fruit & vegetable preservation, data entry operator on computer, krishi jankar, pashu jankar and udhyaniki jankar.

National Horticulture Mission

The national horticulture mission was launched in the year 2005 to promote holistic growth of horticulture sector through an area based regionally differentiated strategies which include research, technology promotion, post harvest management, processing for value addition and marketing. This directorate is an active partner of NHM programme through its KVKs for promotion of horticulture in the state.

Under the programme activities like production and supply of planting material through nursery, production and supply of vegetable seeds, front line demonstration on vegetables, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants, establishment of disease forecasting units and plant health clinic and organization of training on production technologies, IPM, PHT and value addition. Under NHM model nursery were established and mother orchards at KVK, Jhunjhnunu and Sriganganagar.

Nutri-Farm:-

A project "Cluster Demonstration on Food Processing & Value Addition in Pearl-millet" worth Rs.1.50 carore was sanctioned to this directorate by the Government of Rajasthan. Under the project ten districts namely Bikaner, Barmer, Karoli, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Alwar, Dausa, Dholpur, Sawai-Madhopur and Bharatpur were selected,where problem of malnutrition is severe.
